The Somme bay has 9 cycling circuits that bear the names of birds. We cycled the Avocet path on the way to Parc de Marquenterre. But we never visited the parc as it was loaded with tourists and school classes. Instead we continued on the route to the Marais de la Bassée, a wetlands zone with highlanders, cattle egrets and spoon bills. After that we visited the beach ot the west of Le Crotoy. And then it was time to go home again passing the enormous lakes created by excavation of sand, pebbles and boulders. Not the most inpiring part of the journey.
In het gebied van de Somme baai zijn negen fietsroutes uitgezet die de naam van een vogel dragen. Wij reden het circuit van de kluut op weg naar het park van Marquenterre. Daar aangekomen bleek het zo overladen met toeristen en schoolkinderen dat we besloten de rondrit te vervolgen. Je komt dan langs een nat gebied met allerlei dieren. Zo zagen we Schotse hooglanders, lepelaars en koereigers. Daarna bezochten we het westelijke strand van Le Crotoy dat dan kennelijk weer niet trendy is want het was er vrijwel uitgestorven. Terug langs de plassen die ontstaan zijn door grind- en zandwinning. Niet het meest inspirerende stukje.
