The last island we visited was Hoy. Arriving at the jetty of Linksness we decided to walk to Rackwick bay at the other side of the island because the weather was exceptionally good. There is a footpath through the valley that was desolate, other-worldly even, which created a nice eerie atmosphere. Rackwick itself was rather remote to say the least with a shack that was the wee little shop (only garden peas). But our landlady rented her car for a modest price so we could go shopping in Longhope at the other end of Hoy.
Hoy was het laatste eiland dat we bezochten. We besloten vanaf de veerdam van Linksness naar Rackwick bay te lopen aangezien het ongewoon lekker weer was. Door de vallei tussen de heuvels liep een pad van ongeveer 9 kilometer dat behoorlijk desolaat was, spookachtig bijna. Rackwick zelf was ook niet veel meer dan een paar boerderijen met voor trekkers en hippies een “winkeltje” waar je niet veel meer kon krijgen dan tuinerwtjes in blik.De verhuurster van onze nissenhut leende echter voor een tientje haar auto uit zodat we in Longhope helemaal aan de andere kant boodschappen konden doen.
