The old university campus was in the northern part of the city centre. It had some cosy parts with some buildings designed by Alvar Aalto. Staff houses were on the premises. Please note the ladders on the yellow house, typical for a land where one may face meters of snow. The new university was built to the south on the other side of the lake with an impressive bridge leading to the massive stairs of the entrance. To the north of the city the student appartment buildings are situated in the Kortepohja quarter. As Jyvaskyla is a compact town this is not far from the university if you have a bike. Close to the student quarters I found a remarkable blue statue which happens to be at a retirement home. Life in a nutshell.
De oude universiteit lag min of meer in het centrum. Het is een relatief compacte campus waarvan een deel door Alvar Aalto is ontworpen. Sommige gebouwen zijn nog steeds van de universiteit, maar andere hebben een nieuwe functie gekregen. Let op de ladders op het gele huis. Typisch voor een land waar je soms meters sneeuw van het dak moet vegen. De nieuwe campus ligt ten zuiden van de stad aan de overkant van een meer. Een buitenkans om een freudiaanse entree te maken met een indrukwekkende brug die uitmondt in dito trappen. Aan de noordkant van de stad liggen de studentenwoningen in de wijk Kortepohja. Vlak daarbij trof ik een vreemd, blauw mannetje. Dat blijkt een bejaardenhuis. Het leven in een notendop, zeg maar.
